Välkommen att delta vid Angela Sasic Kalagasidis installationsföreläsning till professor vid institutionen för arkitektur och samhällsbyggnadsteknik, avdelningen för byggnadsteknologi.
After decades of moving forward as a research field and teaching discipline, a point of stagnation has been reached in building physics. Or so appeared to me some years ago. In this talk I will speak about how several inspiring research directions have opened for me after I changed a viewpoint on problems that traditional building physics has been developed around. Some directions involve investigation of molecular solar thermal systems, wherein understanding of atomic scale phenomena is not only a challenge of fundamental research but also carries the potential for later technological applications in buildings. Others are found at urban scales, where the so-called bottom-up integration of buildings into energy, stormwater, or urban climate systems tells us about the challenges that real-life preferences inevitably put on all technical innovations.
