How do we take on present and future challenges for urban waters?

The water cycle in urban environments start at the freshwater sources from which we produce drinking water. This water is used in households, commerce, and industry. Once used, it is sent to the wastewater treatment plant before being discharged into receiving waters. Urban runoff, caused by precipitation, is either sent to the wastewater treatment plant or discharged directly into receiving waters, from which we then produce drinking water again. Drinking water safety has an important role in determining the quality of life in our societies. In that perspective, problems with microbial pathogens, pollutants and climate change can have an important impact on public health. This presentation will focus on consumer perspectives and how modelling can be used to address challenges for urban waters.
