Aim

Industrial economics aims to build e bridge between technology and economics/management in industrial companies. The purpose of this class is to present and create understanding for foundational terminology and models used for management and distribution of scarce resources within industrial companies.

Learning outcomes (after completion of the course the student should be able to)

  • Being able to use foundational terminology within managerial economics
  • Apply foundational models within budgeting, capital budgeting and product calculation
  • Being able to use excel for solving relevant problems

Content

  • Introduction to economic analysis
  • Cashflow- income- and balance sheet budgeting and how they are interrelated
  • Capital budgeting and time value of money including tax and inflation incl analysis of profitability measures
  • Foundational product calculation 
  • Working capital deduction
  • Foundational knowledge in excel

Organisation

  • Lectures and exercises, 
  • Mandatory exercises and hand-ins in excel

Literature

The literature for the course will be announced at the course homepage no later than two weeks before the start of the course.

Examination including compulsory elements

  • Individual 4-hour exam in excel
  • Mandatory exercises in excel
