Your opportunities for exchange studies
Spend a semester or a full academic year abroad as part of your studies at Chalmers. Through our global network of partner universities, you can gain international experience, broaden your academic perspective, and take courses that can be credited towards your degree.
Whether you're interested in studying in Europe or on the other side of the world, an exchange gives you the chance to immerse yourself in a new culture, build an international network, and develop skills that will benefit you both personally and professionally.
The most common pathways to exchange studies
Study Outside Europe
Looking for an international experience beyond Europe? Through Global Exchange, one of Chalmers’ main exchange programmes, you can study at a partner university in destinations such as Asia, North America, South America or Australia.
Chalmers has bilateral agreements with universities around the world, allowing you to spend one or two semesters abroad without paying tuition fees to the host institution. During your exchange, you can apply for Swedish student finance (CSN) and will also receive a scholarship from Chalmers. Please note that you are responsible for additional expenses such as travel and accommodation.
Application period: 1 November – 1 December
Study in Europe
If you are interested in studying in Europe, Erasmus+ is one of the main exchange opportunities available to Chalmers students.
Through Erasmus+, you can spend a semester or a year at one of Chalmers’ European partner universities while receiving a scholarship funded by the European Union. In addition to the standard Erasmus+ grant, you may be eligible to apply for supplementary funding depending on your individual circumstances.
Application period: 15 January – 15 February

Have your study plan tailored for you
Through the ENHANCE university alliance, students in selected programmes can apply for an exchange semester with courses that are already aligned with their degree programme. This makes it easier to plan your studies and transfer credits after your exchange.
Applications are submitted during the same period as Erasmus+, but ENHANCE opportunities are listed separately in the Search Portal. There, you can see which Chalmers programmes offer exchange places within the ENHANCE network.
Exchange through a Nordic university alliance
Nordic Five Tech offers students in selected programmes the opportunity to study at one of the network’s partner universities within a collaboration between leading technical universities in the Nordic region.
The programme is designed for students who are interested in studying at a Nordic university through a well-established academic partnership, with access to courses and exchange opportunities developed specifically within the alliance.
Applications are submitted during the same period as Erasmus+.
