Abstrakt:
If MEMS based neurotechnology has been around since the 60’ies, why are there still no brain microchips that provide super-human capabilities like infrared vision? And do we have to worry about future chips reading our thoughts? These kinds of questions commonly pop up when discussing the future of bioelectronics and advanced neurotechnology. Indeed, bioelectronic devices have the power to transform society. In fact, some of them already do, but are so integrated that we barely notice them as part of a technological revolution that started more than 60 years ago. Over the last ten years, enormous progress has been made towards increasing the precision at which bio/ and neuro-electronics operate. In my talk I will give my perspective on why this empowerment is a good thing and dispute the idea that future neurotechnology can be used to read your mind.
