In this lecture, Paula presents plans for research and teaching based on previous research, experiences and activities from the field of sustainable building and transformation. The ambition is to establish a thematic approach concerning the relationships between the fields of architecture and sustainability, aspects of design and cultural values of the built environment, and urgent challenges for environmental protection and sustainable development. All of this coupled to stakeholders, the balance between built environment as physical objects as well as parts of an overarching circular approach. We need to do more, come and join in the discussion.

https://www.chalmers.se/sv/centrum/gmv/kalendarium/Sidor/GSF-webbinarium-2-Februari-2021.aspxhttps://www.chalmers.se/sv/centrum/gmv/kalendarium/Sidor/GSF-webbinarium-2-Februari-2021.aspxA Global Sustainable Futures weibnar Favourable policies for children - with and without a pandemic
Zoom webinar

The Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted by the UN General Assembly a little more than 30 years ago. Over the past three decades we have seen significant improvement in areas like under five mortality and getting children into primary schools. Yet progress is deeply uneven and an estimated one in six children lived in extreme poverty before the Covid- pandemic. Many governments have responded to the pandemic with fiscal stimulus packages to protect jobs and incomes but some are already cutting down on government spending including on child-focused social services such as health and education. Sound policies and investments are needed to safeguard progress on reducing child poverty and vulnerability.
This lunch-webinar, between 12:00 and 13:00 (CET), will focus on favorable policies and investments in children in the context of middle-income countries with presentations by Adel Daoud, University of Gothenburg and Andrés Franco, UNICEF.

Machine learning for analysing the impacts of International Monetary Fund (IMF) policies on child poverty - what have we learned?
Adel Daoud has studied the impacts of IMF policies on child poverty using machine learning. Machine learning is a subset of artificial intelligence and can be described as the study of computer algorithms that improve automatically through experience. Often due to sovereign debt crises, many governments apply for IMF loans. However, this lending is conditional on making adjustments to economic policies. These adjustments are often restrictive, that is, they cut government spending and thereby resulting in austerity affecting children adversely.
Adel Daoud, PhD from the Department of Sociology at GU was recently awarded a large research grant from the Swedish Research Council involving the University of Gothenburg, Chalmers and Cambridge University to study the effects of on children's lives.

The impact of Covid-19 on children - emerging evidence and policy options
UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunties to reach their full potential. Andrés Franco leads UNICEF's work on multilateral partnerships and engagements around policy and fundraising. His presentation will include reports and initial evidence of impact, policy options and discuss the roles of governments, civil society, the international community, academia and the private sector to protect children from the harmful effect of rising poverty and inequality. His emphasis will be on Middle-Income countries.
The two presentations will be followed by group reflections and a moderated Q&A session with the speakers.
For those wishing to read more about Adel Daoud¿s work in preparation for this seminar, visit his website About Adel Daoud and see for example: Daoud, Adel, and Fredrik Johansson, 2019, Estimating Treatment Heterogeneity of International Monetary Fund Programs on Child Poverty with Generalized Random Forest, SocArxiv (download here). About Adel Daoud and Fredrik Johanssons work

Location: Zoom-webinar.

https://www.chalmers.se/sv/styrkeomraden/halsa-och-teknik/kalendarium/Sidor/Engineering-Health-2021.aspxhttps://www.chalmers.se/sv/styrkeomraden/halsa-och-teknik/kalendarium/Sidor/Engineering-Health-2021.aspxEngineering Health 2021

Välkommen till vårt initiativseminarium våren 2021!

Initiativseminariet Engineering Health har underrubriken Joining forces in healthcare solutions.

Det två dagar långa eventet är uppdelat i fyra delar:

• New technology: Pushing the boundaries in diagnostics and treatment

• Prevention: Keep out (of the hospital)!

• Restoring health: New solutions for rehabilitation

• Modern treatment: Personalised health- and self-care

Vi presenterar stolt vår inspirationstalare Carolina Klüft, som kommer att tala om sitt engagemang i Generation Pep och ungas hälsa.

Initiativseminariet är öppet för alla!
