The courses FACE008 and FACE009 are only available to PhD students based at the department of Architecture and Civil Engineering (ACE). If you are a student in a different department in Chamers, you can register for similar courses at https://chalmers.upgrades.se/. Check with your Phd study director about whether your department assigns course points for Swedish language courses and other rules apply to your department.
If you are a PhD student at ACE read on. You can attend as many Swedish courses as you wish, however, you are permitted to credit a maximum of 3 hp towards your PhD studies. ACE offers two credited Swedish courses each worth 1,5 credits, called FACE008 and FACE009. Whereas the level is flexible (see below). FACE009 must represent a higher level of Swedish proficency than FACE008.
Introduction
The Swedish language courses are designed for learners who wish to acquire basic to intermediate knowledge of the Swedish language and culture. These courses follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and aim to provide practical language skills for everyday communication in Swedish, `Upgrades`is partnered with Chalmers University of Technology of the provision of language courses. Courses are offered at various levels, including A1.1, A1.2, A2.1, A2.2, B1.1, B1.2, B2.1, B2.2.
Background
The ability to communicate in Swedish supports integration and participation in Swedish academic, professional, and social life. These courses help learners develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, while introducting essential vocabolary and grammar structures for practical use.
Credits
FACE008 and FACE009 are each equivalent to 1,5 credits. If a Phd Student credits both courses towards their Phd, then FACE009 must be for a higher level of Swedish than FACE008.
