Andres Cuaran

Hej everyone! My name is Andres and I come from Bogota D.C, Colombia. I am studying the Master’s programme in Infrastructure and Environmental Engineering with focus on waste and storm water treatment. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the National University of Colombia. Before coming to Chalmers I was working with environmental research on mining license impact assessment.

Science + life + home, let’s do the math!

Like most students searching for Master’s studies, I narrowed my searching criteria, in this case sustainability and water studies. After I spent some time gathering information, Sweden was always at the top of my list due to its innovative and sustainable Master’s programmes. I was also searching for cities where student life was important. Chalmers came into the equation as a result of what I wanted from a university - high levels of innovation, research and student involvement.

I always tell to my friends, it is not only the student choosing Chalmers, it is also Chalmers choosing you to be part of this amazing and wonderful family. Chalmers is the place where you can express yourself, where you pursue knowledge independently, with the guidance of professors who encourage you to move forward, where social life and science come hand in hand, where the university and Gothenburg make together a unique and wide campus, where sustainability and innovation are part of your daily routine.

What have you learnt from Chalmers?

Chalmers has given me the opportunity to get involved in various projects around campus. Currently I work as project manager for Chalmers Students for Sustainability (CSS), organising lectures and talks about sustainability and education. In 2014 I was part of Chalmers International Reception Committee (CIRC) giving a well-deserved welcome to all new international students. I am also working as a Student Ambassador, guiding future Chalmers students through the admissions process and managing a group for Colombian Chalmerists.
When it comes to my study field, I am part of the Challenge Lab as a change agent in the transition towards a sustainable future. And the list goes on and on… Chalmers is a big open door for opportunities.

What would you tell to new aspirants to Chalmers?

I would say Chalmers is the right option, what are you waiting for? Chalmers is the place where you can find the track for your thoughts, where you can turn your ideas into amazing engineering and design projects, where you can get involved and never stop working for sustainability, where you can innovate and create your own company, where you can participate and share your experience, where you can meet people from all over the world and learn from different cultures, where your goals would be reached and where your life will enhance!

Välkommen till Chalmers! (Welcome to Chalmers!)
