CHARM, is one of Scandinavia’s leading career fair which is organized in the month of February at Chalmers University of Technology. It provides an excellent opportunity to students to get familiarized with the industry and a platform to students to expand their professional network by establishing industrial contacts. CHARM prepares students for both an industrial and research career. The fair is arranged by the CHARM committee.
The fair is preceded by the pre-CHARM activities which includes lunch lectures, case events and other inspirational happenings connecting students and companies. On the day of the fair, CHARM-tech and CHARM talk are major crowd pullers. In CHARM-tech companies demonstrate their latest products to the students, and encourage an interactive communication with the students who visit the fair. CHARM talk give students an opportunity to meet the company representatives in person. The talks offer a perfect platform for establishing contact with the company and to discuss career opportunities, trainee programs or thesis projects.
A large number of students volunteer to offer their services to CHARM during the fair either as a “project group member” or as a “host”. CHARM hosts work in association with the CHARM project group and together they help the committee in conducting the fair successfully. The project group has bigger responsibility than the hosts as they are a part of pre-planning work for CHARM. They work as a link between the committee and the hosts. This year I along with a few of my friends signed up for being a CHARM host. The fair was held on 2-3 February and witnessed the presence of 149 exhibiting companies from diverse sectors. As a host I got the opportunity to be the company representative for SEMCON and PREEM. I worked as a liaison between my companies and the project group. I was the point of contact for my companies during the fair and I helped them in setting up and winding up their booths. I met a lot of companies from the healthcare sector and got a lot of free goodies as well. CHARM gave me the opportunity to be a part of the CHARM banquet. The banquet was arranged at the end of the first fair day. The venue was styled in classic fashion with an elaborate and sumptuous repast. This was followed by some amazing music and dance performances. It was indeed an evening worth cherishing.
To sum up, it was great fun to be a part of CHARM fair and it helped me polish my team working, leadership and managerial skills.
