Shipping energy use and emissions: modelling of today and future scenarios

Om kursen

About the course
Within this PhD course you will get an overview of the use of AIS data to estimate fuel consumption from shipping and its emissions to sea and air. You will get the opportunity to learn about some of the available tools and models and also test them out in practice. The course will also give insights into scenario development for future energy use and emissions. It will be focused around four themes: ship to fleet modelling, emissions to air and sea, scenario development and analysis of robustness.

Course organization
The course consists of an online introductory lecture and six full days in Gothenburg during spring 2025. The days are scheduled into three time periods so that two days are directly following each other to make it easier if any participants outside Gothenburg would like to attend. Between these days, students are expected to read literature, engage actively in project work, and prepare a presentation that focuses on their project.
A project around one of the areas or tools in the course will be developed together with a dedicated supervisor. The project will be presented in the end of the course. After the resources available it can be adapted to topics of interest of the course participants.
