    Om kursen

    Overall goal
    To understand the objectives behind platform based development; how such objectives can be realized in industrial settings and to learn how new methods and tools can be used for this purpose.

    Overall contents
    Scale benefits versus customization: platform strategies in industrial settings.
    Object oriented platform systems engineering: the configurable component (CC) concept.
    EF-M based design rationale modelling.
    CC-based platform development and variant configuration: platform preparation and execution - models, methods and IT-support.
    Technology platforms.

    Organization
    Lectures on Object oriented platform systems engineering.
    A series of 6 seminars held by the participants based on the book "Advances in Product Family and Product Platform Design - Methods & Applications" by Timothy Simpson, Roger Jianxin Jiao, Zahed Siddique, and Katja Hölttä-Otto (eds) + selected research papers.
    Platform development and modelling project assignment.

    Knowledge prerequisites
    Basics in Systems Engineering, Design Theory & Methodology and CAD.

    Examination
    Based on:
    Seminar presentations and related written summaries.
    Project presentation and written project report.

    W39, Wednesday 9-12: Lecture - Introduction: Industrial practice vs. Object Oriented Platform Systems Engineering, Selection of "seminar chapters".
    W40, Thursday 9-11: Lecture - Reuse of generic assets: Technologies and Configurable System Family Concepts.
    W41, Wednesday 9-12: Introduction to CCM: CC and EF-M modelling, presentation of project assignment.
    W42-47, Thursday 9-11: Literature seminar (2 book chapters).
    W48-49, Thursday 9-11: Project presentations.
