Onsala Space Observatory

Onsala Space Observatory, OSO, is the Swedish national infrastructure for Radio Astronomy which provides scientists with equipment to study the Earth and the rest of the Universe. In Onsala, 45 km south of Göteborg, we operate several radio telescopes for astronomy and geodesy.

Onsala Space Observatory is the Swedish national infrastructure for radio astronomy.

We provide scientists with equipment to study the Earth and the rest of the universe. We are involved in international radio astronomy projects such as SKA, ALMA, the European VLBI Network and the Event Horizon Telescope, and we provide equipment for Earth sciences.

At the observatory, which is located 45 km south of Gothenburg in west Sweden, there are several dish antennas, a station in the LOFAR telescope, and many other instruments for research in astronomy and geoscience.
