All WACQT members are invited to the yearly May-meeting, the purpose of which is to review the activities in the Centre.

Our scientific advisory board will assist to the presentations and poster sessions, talk to people (incl a lunch with senior PhD students and postdocs) and give feedback to the Board and PIs on the activities in WACQT. This is also a great chance to meet and get to know other researchers in the Centre.

In addition to the professional content, there will be social activities and dinners. More details will be available later, but they include a dinner on a boat in the archipelago and none will require extreme effort or special equipment.

Presentations, fikas and lunches are offered to all members of WACQT. The activities and dinners and offered to WACQT employees*.

We have outgrown MC2 and this year the venue will be Wallenberg conference centre at Gothenburg university, about one km from Chalmers.

Accommodation

Due to a major exhibition in the city, we have reserved some rooms at a few different hotels, however at normal rates, which may be hard to get. If you wish help to get a room, please tick this option. We will confirm your accommodation within max five days after your registration.

PhD students will be accommodated at the newly opened student/researcher hostel Holterman and may be asked to share a room with someone of the same gender. If you agree with someone specific to share, you should both tick Yes and make a comment, to be accommodated in the same room.

Please note, that if a lot of people register, we may not have rooms for everyone. First come, first served. Payment is made by the guest directly to the hotel and by ticking yes, you will be accountable for the assigned room, unless it can be cancelled or assigned to another participant.

The breakfast delivery can be picked up at their Barception by the first arrivals and brought to the kitchen at B2.

Logistics in Gothenburg

For people from universities outside Gothenburg, we will provide 72-hour passes for trams and buses with Västtrafik. If you stay at a hotel that we have booked for you, they will be available at the reception. For Holterman guests, the card should be available in your rooms at your arrival. Otherwise, they can be picked up at the venue on the first morning. The closest stop to Wallenberg conference centre is Medicinaregatan. The closest stop to Holterman Hostel is Chalmers.

The easiest way to plan your trips is via the app ToGo.

Dinners

Dinner 10th May is at Wijkanders 18.30, as usual, the favourite restaurant at Chalmers campus, Vera Sandbergs allé 5B. Closest bus/tram stop is Kapellplatsen. From Universeum, the quickest thing is to take the tram to Chalmers and walk five minutes.

Dinner 11th May is served on M/S Carl Michael Bellman, somewhere in the beautiful archipelago and we return around sunset. Departure from “Lilla Bommen”, 7 minutes’ walk from the tramstop “Lilla Bommen”.

Afternoon activities

(require the use of the tram card or bike to reach)

10th May: A visit to Universeum. Let your interest guide you, opt for the rainforest among birds, sloths and monkeys, the aquarium or see their reptiles or the exhibitions on life science or mathematics. You will not have time to see it all, so you may want to look it up in advance. Tickets will be handed out to registered participants during the check-in at the conference venue. If you arrived late or did not get the ticket, look for Linda Brånell.

11th May: Guided walks in Gothenburg with professional guides, in English (one tour in Swedish). Stretch your legs and get some fresh air before dinner. You can opt for a visit to the ancient catacombs, learn more about the prominent women in our history, learn about movements and people’s lives in Haga or the wealthier, vibrant West Nordstan with its trade and culture. Read more about the guided walks.

The groups have been divided based on the results in the poll. To avoid interference, it has been arranged so that a WACQT cicerone takes each group to meet up with the actual guide. Make sure you know who your cicerone is and follow them after the fika break.

PhD students/posters

All PhD students are kindly requested to bring, and be prepared to present, a poster about their project, size A0. Ideally, reserve a little space for a popular science “pitch” about what you do, like you would explain it to a high-school kid.
Please put a coloured 5x5 cm square in the upper right corner to identify your pillar**.

Please check your number in the list before you put up your poster at the venue. The pillars are kept together.

** Red for quantum computing experiment
Blue for quantum computing theory
Dark green for quantum sensing, metrology and control
Dark/visible yellow for quantum communication

Schedule

Take a look at the May meeting 2023 schedule. It may be subject to change.

Lunches:

Lunch is served in the restaurant upstairs at the venue.

A number of senior PhD students and postdocs have been selected to have lunch with SAB members from their respective pillars, to make sure that the SAB gets also the perspective of our junior staff, before they make their evaluation of the Centre’s activities. Separate invitations have been sent out. These groups should have priority in the lunch queue to make the most out of their time. There will be table signs to guide you to the right table. If you were invited, your name is listed on the sign.

Please consult your registration confirmation if you are uncertain of what kind of food you signed up for, and please eat that.
