WASP Lighthouse at Chalmers University of Technology

The main goal for WASP Lighthouse at Chalmers is to create closer connections between existing WASP faculty, students, PhD students and postdocs, and partners in the industry and public sector.

WASP Lighthouse Initiative

Objectives of the WASP Lighthouse Initiative:

  •     Increase WASP’s local presence at universities.
  •     Provide both physical or virtual "spaces" for WASP-related activities.
  •     Strengthen connections with faculty, fellows, and alumni.
  •     Organize events, seminars, and activities that align with WASP’s vision and mission.

Aims and Goals of the WASP Lighthouse at Chalmers University of Technology

The primary goal of the WASP Lighthouse at Chalmers is to foster a stronger "community feel" and create closer connections between existing WASP faculty, students (including PhDs and postdocs), and partners in the industry and public sector. By establishing a shared space, the initiative aims to address the current lack of a central hub for informing and discussing WASP-related topics at the university.

The Lighthouse leverages the existing infrastructure and expertise of the Chalmers AI Research Centre (CHAIR), situated in Fysikhuset Origo. This collaboration ensures that WASP activities are highly visible to a recurring audience of AI experts and visiting researchers. While the physical location serves as an information point, the Lighthouse will primarily act as a vibrant "meeting place" through a series of domain-specific workshops, career-focused social meetings, and inter-university speaker series. Many of these will also be arranged in collaboration with CHAIR.

A key focus is to increase WASP's visibility to those not yet active in the network, including faculty but also potential future PhD students currently enrolled in Bachelor or Master programs at Chalmers. To encourage this engagement, the Lighthouse will host yearly awards for the best bachelor and master theses in WASP-relevant fields.
