Mechanical Characterization of Nucleic acids using Single Molecule techniques

The MeChaNiSM network connects world-leading academic laboratories in the fields of single-molecule biophysics, organic synthesis, and molecular modeling with key industrial partners (pharma and scientific instrumentation) creating a unique environment to train 15 Doctoral Candidates (DCs) in cross-disciplinary skills. These DCs will be vital to establish new technology in nucleic acids chemistry and single-molecule analysis in industrial research, in particular for pharmaceutical and biotechnological industries, in the design of new drugs — including RNA therapeutics — and technologies to improve human health.

Chalmers leads EU-initiative on future medicines

RNA-based drugs hold immense potential and are of great interest to both society and the pharmaceutical industry. However, to tackle the current challenges, there is a need for increased knowledge about RNA. Techniques that analyze RNA molecules individually can enhance our understanding of their fundamental properties, potentially accelerating drug development. EU is now funding a project coordinated by Chalmers University of Technology to train PhD students with specialized expertise in this research area.
