Student life at Chalmers is full of fun societies, projects and traditions you can join. Here you’ll find new friends and experiences that make your time as a student about much more than just studies.
Orientation week
Starting your studies at Chalmers means taking your first step into the Chalmers community. The Chalmers International Reception Committee ensures that you feel welcome from day one by arranging plenty of activities where you can meet new people.
They can even meet you at the airport when you arrive! Everything begins with an International Reception Ceremony, followed by four weeks of events filled with fun activities and opportunities to get to know the campus. For many students, this marks the start of friendships and memories that last throughout their time at Chalmers.

Cortégen
Cortégen is a carnival parade that rolls through Gothenburg every spring on Walpurgis Eve. Students showcase their projects on truck platforms, often poking fun at events from the past year. Up to 250,000 people gather to watch the parade, a tradition that has been running since the early 1900s. But the best part actually happens the week before. That’s when everyone builds and creates together on campus. These days are filled with teamwork, new friendships, and the thrill of being part of something big together.

Build a car and compete worldwide
Did you know you can join one of several large student projects at Chalmers where you build a car together and compete with students from all over the world? Some of the biggest are Chalmers Formula Student, Chalmers Solar Team and Chalmers Vera Team, each with its own profile and focus.
Student societies
At Chalmers there are student societies for almost everything. You can keep up with what you already enjoy or try something completely new. Play sports, build robots, organize parties, fly balloons, become a DJ, try your drama skills in plays or sing in a choir. You can help build floats for Cortégen, launch fireworks with Pyrot, organize parties with FestU, photograph student life with CFFC, or get involved in the career fair Charm. There is always something to take part in and new friends to meet.

Join local events with Unimeet
During your time here, you’ll be able to join everything from career days and company visits to social hangouts, cultural events, workshops and seminars through our collaboration with Unimeet Gothenburg, another great opportunity to meet new people and experience the city.
Student city Gothenburg
Gothenburg is Sweden’s second largest city, and it’s no coincidence that so many students choose to live here. Gothenburg is an event city that offers so much it’s sometimes hard to choose, and it has also been named the world’s most sustainable destination several years in a row.

Chalmers Student Union
The Student Union works closely with the university to ensure that education and the study environment are of high quality. At Chalmers, all students are members of the Student Union, which means everyone has the chance to influence their student life. And the Union building? It’s not just any building. It’s the largest student-owned building in Sweden, with 11,000 square meters filled with a pool, sauna, gym, arcade, cinema room and much more.
