Abstract:

Liposomes are popular drug delivery carriers and often used to modulate cellular uptake. The initial binding of drug- or vaccine-carrying liposomes to the cell surface is a key step in the uptake process, although not trivial to characterize. Multi-parametric/dual-wavelength surface plasmon resonance (MP-SPR), is a label-free surface-based technique that provides quantification of bound mass as well as structural information in real-time. Here, we present an MP-SPR-based method to simultaneously study multivalent binding and binding-induced deformation of liposomes to a cell membrane mimic, and compare the interaction behavior of two different liposome types.
