Abstrakt finns enbart på engelska: I will very briefly discuss the following three areas in which Talagrand has made very important contributions and which have been mentioned in the prize description.
These three parts will be independent of each other.
1. His work on Gaussian processes (a) concerning when a 0 mean Gaussian process has an integrable maximum, including a quantitative version and (b) its relation to characterizing when a Gaussian process has a continuous version, answering a question of Kolmogorov.
2. His work on concentration of measure for product measures, where, among many things, he derived a new inequality which had profound implications for concentration for random variables from many different areas.
3. His solution of the Parisi conjecture concerning the Sherrington Kirkpatrick model, a "disordered system" from statistical mechanics.
