This course will introduce you to the themes of one of the oldest research fields in mathematics, which is still active: the natural numbers. You will study basic problems such as the distribution of primes, integer solutions of algebraic equations, and combinatorial and geometric properties of integers. Despite the rich history of the subject, the connections to current research are many, and at a certain level, easy to understand. We will also touch on applications such as encryption.
