Data Science, AI and Machine Learning is poised to play a major disruptive role in the coming automated economy and society. Major players such as Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Amazon and Twitter have already formed central AI teams designed to spread artificial intelligence throughout their companies. We will survey the future roadmap of AI and machine learning, highlighting the opportunities but also the challenges ahead, giving examples from research and innovation in our own group at Chalmers. Devdatt Dubhashi is Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Chalmers University. He received his B.Tech in Computer Science and Engg. from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and his masters and Ph.D. degrees from Cornell University in the US. He leads the Algorithms and Machine Learning group at Chalmers and coordinates BigData@Chalmers a trans-disciplinary initiative cutting across all Areas of Advance at Chalmers. He leads projects from the SSF, VR Framework grants and Vinnova in data driven research and was an expert consultant for OECD in drafting their report on "Data Driven Innovation for Growth and Well Being".
