Socializing sustainable energy systems

Dr. Dasun Perera will give his research presentation for Assistant Professor within the Energy Area of Advance. Welcome!
Dr Dasun PereraWHO: Dasun Perera
WHEN: 24 May, 11:30–12:20
WHERE: Café Ooto, Room 4, Guldhuset, Johanneberg Science Park, Sven Hultins gata 1-2, Chalmers Campus Johanneberg.

Sustainable energy solutions pave the path to decarbonizing transportation, building, and industrial sectors in urban areas while reducing the dependence on fossil fuel resources. However, the deep decarbonization of urban systems leads to a complex energy ecosystem that consists of strong interdependence among different sectors.
The trilemma of improving efficiency, resilience, and sustainability makes it more challenging to design such ecosystems. The importance of moving from the centralized modeling approach to a decentralized architecture to address this bottleneck will be discussed in the lecture. The novel concept of Urban Cell (based on a decentralized modeling approach), inspired by the wood-wide web mimicking the natural ecosystem among trees, will be introduced. Finally, the potential of the Urban Cell to improve sustainability, efficiency, and climate resilience of the energy ecosystem will be discussed.
