Abstrakt finns enbart på engelska: I have modified the classical lecture using the principles of active learning. The students solved problems in small groups during the lecture before voting on alternative answers and then the same problems were solved by the lecturer in front of the class. The students were also invited to take quizzes beforehand. In addition, I gave a popular science lecture about my own research in mathematical biology. Overall, these changes drastically improved the student participation and satisfaction. The percentage of students passing with distinction was also drastically increased.
