Abstrakt finns enbart på engelska: Students today have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to learning resources. In addition to traditional sources of textbooks, lectures and peers, they have access to:
- Youtube videos on every topic
- High powered calculators and graphing tools
- Easily accessed solutions to book and practice problems
- Many more web based resources
It should be a golden age of learning, but that's not what most of us have experienced as teachers. Instead we find students who work hard and come into a test believing they're prepared, but don't live up to their expectations.
In this seminar I'll give a short introduction to Dogl Calculus, which we developed to help Calculus students engage with the material in a productive way. I'll take you through:
- The pedagogical research and principles we designed around
- Some key learnings on the journey to creating a study tool students will actually use
- How we borrowed from Nintendo to make things better
Finally I'll talk a bit about question design for pre-testing and in-class engagement.
