Titel: “The never-ending frontier of advancing the superconductivity Tc to a higher record value of 149 K at ambient without pressure”
Talare: Ching W (Paul) Chu, University of Houston, and Texas Center for Superconductivity.
Abstract:
The search for higher Tc has provided the essential impetus for the continuous interest and efforts in superconductivity science and technology research for more than a century. Great progress has been made. Unfortunately, all record high Tc’s in different compound systems are achieved only under high pressures, e.g. 163 K in stable cuprate HBCCO under 31 GPaa and 260 K in unstable hydride LaH10 under 180-200 GPab. The high pressure required to achieve these high Tc’s has impeded the development of superconductivity science and application. Recently, we have successfully alleviated this impasse by achieving a record-high Tc of 151 K in HBCCO at ambient pressure via the use of a Pressure Quench Protocol (PQP). In this Lecture, I shall present our experimental results and discuss the rationale, the execution and the potential implications of PQP in the development of high-temperature superconductors and compounds with significant properties other than superconductivity in their metastable states.
