Abstract:

MXene, with a general formula of, Mn+1XnTx is one type of emerging two-dimensional(2D) layered materials. MXene has drawn considerable attention, because of its unique characteristics, such as layered structures, high electrical conductivity, outstanding hydrophilicity, and excellent mechanical stability. These unique properties of MXene makes it intriguing for a wide range of applications such as energy storage, biomedical, electronics, and environmental applications. The project deals with preparation of MXene based thin film by using three different coating techniques (spin coating, spray coating and blade coating). The project primly focuses on using monolayered MXene for spin coating films and multilayered MXene for blade coating and spray coating. The reason behind using monolayered MXene is due to two-dimensional structure and surface area, because literature studies showed that spin coating with multilayered MXene results in formation of uneven surfaces in the films. The results exhibit the difference among the concentration and factors required for the three different coatings techniques such as spin coating, spray coating and blade coating. The thesis discusses about the validation and interpretation of surface morphologies of different coating technique using the optical microscope, scanning electron microscope and chemical analyses of prepared MXene composite using X-ray diffraction spectroscopy, TGA, DSC and 4-point probe. The result from this thesis project provide the appropriate coating method for the preparation of target thin film which can be used for sensor applications.
