Abstract
This thesis focuses on the development of propulsion system control laws, specifically designed for the ES-30 aircraft of Heart Aerospace AB. ES-30 is a is a regional hybrid electric aircraft with a seating capacity of 30 passengers. The control functions are implemented within the control system for the aircraft propulsion system. The control system has thrust request and air data as the inputs and utilizes the laws to provide the optimal combination of propeller pitch and motor RPM to achieve maximum efficiency while delivering the requested thrust. The study further takes into account the electrical losses in the propulsion system vis-a-vis the motor losses and the inverter losses during different phases and duration of operation. The final pitch and rpm are determined based on the whole system, considering these losses.
Through analysis, it has been determined that the optimal RPM - pitch combinations for the Take off, Climb and Cruise flight phases are 1750 and 20.3 °, 1650 and 29.15°, 1350 and 31.7°respectively, providing the best efficiency in those flight phases. The results were validated by comparing them with the reference values already established by the company by simulating different flight profiles. It was concluded that these results were both reasonable and practical.
