Algebra and geometry are two of the most classical branches of mathematics. While these disciplines define our name, our faculty explores a broad spectrum of mathematical and pedagogical directions, in many cases oriented towards basic science.
We conduct independent research programs, often collaborating in dynamic groups both within and beyond the department. Many faculty members are affiliated with one or more of the research directions detailed below. For more specific information about research interests and current projects, please see the individual faculty homepages.
Our division hosts a vibrant community of PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. It benefits from strong collaborative networks and mentorship that extends beyond formal advising, leveraging the extensive mathematical expertise available within our division and institution.
We maintain an active intellectual environment through a steady flow of visiting researchers and collaborators from around the world. The division organizes the following seminar series: Algebraic Geometry and Number Theory, Geometry, Algebra and Physics in Deep Neural Networks (GAPinDNNs), Complex analysis (KASS), Pedagogical seminar and Teaching and learning of mathematics. Read more about these on the page Seminar series.
