The first Materials Science Initiative Seminar, entitled "Materials for Tomorrow", was held October 13-15, 2010. A meeting point for scientists, students and industry representatives, the main aim of the workshop was to demonstrate the width of the on-going materials research at Chalmers.

Day 1 of the seminar was targeted at high school students from the Gothenburg area. Short presentations by young scientists from Chalmers as well as from industry were followed by practical demonstrations and hands-on experiences of new materials. Activities included demonstrations of DuraPulp, superconductors, catalysis, diapers, mimicing human bone, and nanotechnology engineered fabric. Companies Södra Innovation, SCA, Promimic, Nobel Biocare and Capeco were involved.

Day 2 featured presentations by our External Advisory Board, five distinguished scientists in the materials field who are connected as advisers to Chalmers. The closing session was called Science Highlights at Chalmers and included presentations by representatives from each of our five Excellence profiles. This was followed by a poster session.
