Here is a short report from two days packed with interesting talks by graduate students and invited speakers
On February 18th and 19th, around 60 PhD students from the graduate school of Materials Science came together in KE at Chalmers for the third edition of the Materials Science Graduate Student Days (MSGSD). The two days were filled with invited and popular science talks, a tour at the labs, poster sessions, and mingling at lunches, coffee breaks, and a conference dinner at the restaurant Hyllan.
The first day started with a talk by Fredrik Höök, professor at Applied Physics who gave a talk on his experiences in a spin off company, using ideas from his PhD thesis. The spin off company theme was continued during the MSGSD by a talk of Henrik Blycker from Oxeon and Maria Gröndahl from Xylophane. Julia Fernandez-Rodriguez was also invited; she talked about the possibilities at the Centre for Cellular Imaging Advanced Microscopy Facility at Sahlgrenska.
Throughout the Materials Science Graduate Student Days, PhD students gave insights in their research by popular science posters and oral presentations showing the broad range of research areas in the graduate school of Materials Science. A tour in the labs of the department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering gave a chance to get an excellent overview over the variety of equipment and research conducted in the department.
