Hydropower – new challenges in a renewable energy system

It's time for Chalmers Energy Area of Advance Friday seminar & afterwork.
Time and place: Café Ooto, Guldhuset, Johanneberg Science Park, 22 October, 15:30-17:00.
In this seminar Professor Håkan Nilsson and Dr. Mohammad Hossein Arabnejad will give us different perspectives and an exciting discussion on a hot topic: Hydropower – new challenges in a renewable energy system.

Håkan NilssonOnce designed for base load, hydropower now meets new challenges as a major source of regulating power in a renewable energy system with intermittent energy sources.

  • How is the flow in the turbines affected by their new operation?
  • What are the limits for safe operation?
  • What are the costs for this regulating power?
Håkan Nilsson, professor in fluid dynamics, gives a brief overview of research activities that will contribute to the answer to those questions.

Mohammad Hossein ArabnejadDr.Mohammad Hossein Arabnejad, post-doc in a project funded by AoA Energy, gives a focus on effects due to cavitation.
