Generative AI is no longer a thing of the future, but part of our everyday lives. This human- and learning-centred continuing education course in AI for professionals serves as both a personal guide and an arena for joint exploration. Organisations around the world are raising their expectations for AI skills and this course will help you meet those expectations.
In this free online course, you will receive hands-on training in AI use for your profession. You will learn to use AI safely, smartly and responsibly, including how to identify tasks suited for AI support or automation.
About the course
Recent OECD and inter-agency research finds that AI is rapidly reshaping workplace skill requirements. AI literacy is increasingly becoming a foundational competence, and most workers are expected to need the skills to use and interact effectively with AI systems as part of their work.
Working and Learning with Generative AI – a practical mini-course for the workplace is an open course from Chalmers University of Technology for professionals who want to strengthen their AI skills. The course consists of a combination of self-study, optional live sessions and practical exercises tailored to your profession. You will learn how to use generative AI in a responsible, safe and effective way – with a focus on real-life tasks. The course moves from effective individual use towards task delegation, AI agents and automation, and then to how AI can be used in teams and organisations.
Participants who complete the course can earn a certificate from Chalmers and gain concrete tools that they can apply directly in their work. We encourage work teams or colleagues to take the course together, as this strengthens its integration into the business and facilitates collaboration and effective, positive change.
No programming background is required, only access to ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Mistral, Gemini or similar.
Please note that this is a course designed to empower participants and provide them with practical knowledge that they can use in their professional lives. The course does not focus on tutorials for each AI model, detailed programming, building complex AI systems, or how to build and understand machine learning algorithms.

Workload: about 25 hours (including 10 hours role specific practice)
Format: Self-paced online modules, plus 6 optional live sessions with practical activities and invited experts.
