On December 18, 2025, the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation announced grants for seven research projects in artificial intelligence and quantum technology through its Proof of Concept program. The initiative aims to help researchers transform early-stage academic discoveries into validated methods, products, or processes, accelerating the path toward commercialization.

Each project receives SEK 1-4 million over two years, along with support from the Wallenberg Launch Pad (WALP), which provides coaching and commercialization expertise.

Among the recipients are researchers from WACQT. Their projects include:

  • Peter Andrekson, Chalmers University of Technology
Compact, ultrawide bandwidth optical amplifiers and tunable lasers based on chip-scale nonlinear photonics
  • Igor Abrikosov, Linköping University
Novel Solid State Qubits for Quantum Communications
  • Andreas Nylander, Chalmers University of Technology
Frequency-Tuned Qubits: A Scalable Route Toward Industrial Quantum Processors
  • Simone Gasparinetti, Chalmers University of Technology
Travelling Wave Parametric Amplifiers based on Non-linear Kinetic Inductance to be operated at 4K

Purpose and Benefit

The funding strengthens Sweden’s ability to translate cutting-edge research into practical solutions. By bridging the gap between academic innovation and industry application, these projects contribute to future technologies in secure communication, scalable quantum computing, and high-speed data transmission - key areas for global competitiveness and societal progress.
