Starting from study period 1 in 2025, Chalmers students will be able to use most of the university's software from their own computers.

The Virtual Studat project means that the software used in teaching at Chalmers will be accessible from the virtual platform apps.chalmers.se. This means that the software will no longer be tied to specific rooms or need to be ordered in advance for a particular location, freeing up room resources and facilitating scheduling. Students will also be able to use the software via the platform on their own computers, enabling work from home.

"The goal is for students to have access to the majority of all applications available in student computer labs today – both in all student computer labs and on their own computers," says Sofia Dersén, project manager for Virtual StuDAT.

At the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, pilot tests were conducted in some student computer labs. Most of the tested students preferred to work in the new solution compared to the remote solution that Chalmers previously had.

"We received very good input and overall, the students and teachers who tested it have been positive about the solution," says Sofia Dersén.

The platform will be available to students before study period 1 in the autumn term of 2025. Software will then be made available gradually during the autumn.
