Roy Booth, previous Director of Onsala Space Observatory, passed away February 23, 2024, after a long illness. Roy Booth was the driving force behind many of Onsala Space Observatory’s most critical developments: the establishment of the Swedish-ESO Submillmetre Telescope (SEST) in Chile, the Odin submilllimetre observational satellite and the European VLBI Network. One common thread running through Roy’s career was that he was a passionate advocate for international cooperation within astronomy and against taking narrow national perspectives.
