The development around open access to scientific publications is going furiously fast and Chalmers needs to relate to it. Therefore, the Department of Communication and Learning in science (CLS) was commissioned to increase knowledge about the issue and produce relevant documents – to make it easy to do the right thing!
Jessica Lindholm is Vice Head of Department Utilisation at CLS, and operationally responsible for the assignment.
– At present, a lot is happening, both nationally and internationally, around open access. It is therefore a good opportunity for us at Chalmers to work on the issues right now. Hopefully, we can remove a few more obstacles that researchers experience when they want to make their research accessible to everyone.
Anders Palmqvist, Vice President of Research, you have initiated the assignment. Why is this question so important?
– Chalmers as a university and our employees need to relate to the development that is taking place in the outside world in terms of open access. With this assignment to CLS, we want to increase awareness of the formal requirements that we need to comply with, and in dialogue with the faculty design guidelines and recommendations that work in everyday life, in all our research disciplines. It should be easy to do the right thing.
The assignment is based on formal requirements for open access to scientific publications and will:
- Increase awareness at Chalmers Faculty about external requirements regarding open access.
Through dialogues with the faculty, offer increased support and knowledge about open access, - based on the publishing traditions of the various research disciplines.
- Based on the researcher's perspective and regarding current regulations and requirements, prepare proposals for governing documents.
- Update the existing guidance “Best practice in Publishing” with recommendations on open access.
- Make a description of the situation regarding Chalmers' costs for open access.
- Conduct a dialogue about local publishing, with special focus on handling Chalmers' dissertations.
The assignment will be completed after the summer of 2022.
