Firmly rooted in the industry and in practice-oriented research, he brings his commitment to a secure water supply with him when he now joins Chalmers. The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering welcomes Daniel Hellström as an adjunct professor.

Daniel Hellström is R&D Manager at Norrvatten and Associate Professor with research interests in resource recovery from wastewater and innovative system solutions to improve resource efficiency in urban water management. Now, through the Structor Foundation's initiative, he is also formally linked to Chalmers and the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering where he has been installed as an adjunct professor, a role that will have an impact on both education and research activities.
– ‘In my role as R&D manager at Norrvatten, I see this as a great opportunity to contribute to an even closer collaboration between academia and drinking water producers. Chalmers and DRICKS have been and are important for developing working methods and knowledge needed to secure the water supply in the long term and cost-effectively. The motive for entering this for my own part is that I have a great interest in the research issues and especially the applied research in the water sector. My hope is that I will contribute to Chalmers continuing to work with important societal issues such as water supply and sustainable development, and that DRICKS continues to be the obvious hub in Swedish drinking water research,’ says Daniel Hellström.
– Daniel Hellström has a very solid and interesting background, both as a water researcher and as a drinking water producer, which will be a valuable addition both to the research area in drinking water and to the division WET's all research areas on urban water in general, says Thomas Pettersson, Assistant Professor at the Division of Water Environment Technology and Director of DRICKS.
Daniel Hellström was installed as an adjunct professor on 29 October 2024, and gave the lecture "Research for Healthy Drinking Water" in connection with this.
The Structor Foundation supports Daniel Hellström, Associate Professor and Head of Department at Norrvatten, in a newly established adjunct professorship in Urban Water Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology.
‘In many parts of the world, there is a major shortage of drinking water and the supply is under threat, partly due to climate change. We must be able to purify increasingly poor raw water without jeopardising human health. That's why the Structor Foundation supports research in water and wastewater technology.
Daniel Hellström will spend 20 per cent of his working hours as an adjunct professor at the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Division of Water Environment Technology. There he will work with research and supervision of doctoral students and theses, as well as the development of cooperation in the field of drinking water - both in Sweden and internationally.
