It began as a moral crusade. Once he became aware of the unfair conditions faced by female scientists in his field, Paul Walton couldn’t ignore them. Over the past 25 years, he has delivered approximately 150 guest lectures worldwide, with a focus on gender equality in academia. He considers it a personal hobby, dedicating most of his time to research in bioinorganic chemistry at the University of York in the UK.
Paul Walton strongly emphasizes the importance of diverse research teams. Such diversity not only enhances the working environment but also contributes to better research outcomes. The journey toward positive change begins with acknowledging the issue and raising awareness of our own, often unconscious, biases.
In this episode of Verapodden, we meet Professor Paul Walton advisor for Chalmers´ gender equality initiative, Genie, and former deputy leader within the same organization.
The interview with Paul Walton is in English, the introduction is in Swedish.
