The quality work at Chalmers supports the university's long-term vision and goals, where the pursuit of excellence plays a central role.
Chalmers continuously works to develop the conditions for high quality in research, doctoral education, education, and utilisation. The quality work also includes operational support, which is important for the organisation as a whole. To achieve Chalmers' vision of becoming a world-leading university of technology, a structured quality work with clear division of responsibilities is required.
Chalmers' overall quality policy
A policy document points out the direction for systematic quality work for the university. The policy states the purposes, goals, and principles on which the work is based. The starting point is that Chalmers' activities are based on current scientific or artistic foundations and proven experience, both subject-wise and pedagogically. Collaboration and interaction with external partners and stakeholders play an important role for the University.
Systematic quality work for research, doctoral programmes, and education
At Chalmers, research, doctoral programmes, and education have their own respective quality systems adapted to the working methods of the field of activity. To increase quality throughout the organisation, the different quality systems are coordinated.
The quality work at Chalmers is based on five overarching conditions: attractiveness, goal and management processes, environment and culture, relevance to science and society, and the competence of the employees.
Organisation of quality work
Chalmers has a Quality Assurance Officer with overall responsibility for coordinating the quality work. The task includes creating conditions for crosstalk in quality issues between the core activities. Together with advisors and administrators from the Office of the President, with areas of responsibility related to research, doctoral education, education, and utilisation, continuous and joint work is carried out for high quality in Chalmers' activities. The Quality Assurance Officer also serves as the contact point for reviewing authorities, such as the Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ).
Reviews
Chalmers' quality work is regularly reviewed by authorities, primarily the Swedish Higher Education Authority. The basis and outcome of their reviews are published in Högskolekollen.
Chalmers also conducts its own reviews to create conditions for high quality and excellence in research, doctoral education, education, and utilisation.
