Full Mission Bridge Simulator

In our Full Mission Bridge Simulator, it is possible to make a full simulation of the operations performed onboard a ship. Operations are carried out in different weather conditions and environments, including areas with limited space.

Our Full Mission Bridge Simulator can also be connected with the Swedish Maritime Administration's bridge simulator and VTS simulator, both available at the Department. We also have a separate navigation simulator for navigation exercises on ship bridges.

DNV-certified

Our bridge simulator is certified by the classification society Det Norske Veritas. The simulator, a Transas Navi-Trainer Professional 5000, is a Class A simulator that allows a complete simulation of the operations carried out onboard, including manoeuvring in confined areas. The simulator is capable of simulating all the competence requirements of the international regulatory framework STCW 95. The simulator consists of two bridges with a cylindrical visual projection of 270, respectively 200 degrees.

Various scenarios

Interchangeable consoles make it possible to simulate different bridge configurations such as tugs, speed boats and all types of merchant ships. In the "debriefing room", a complete simulation exercise can be viewed, including the actions taken on the radar or ECDIS.

Education and research

The simulator is intended primarily for external courses for officers, but the senior students in the master mariner classes also practice here. In addition to educational exercises, research is conducted in our various research groups, as well as external research studies and within EU projects. We also do port and fairway studies in collaboration with SSPA and accident investigations in cooperation with the Commission of Inquiry.

Certification

When certified, one obtains a so-called "class notation" which describes in detail the simulator's capacity. It is the same system used for ships. The simulator is designated NAUT AW (SIM), DYNPOS - AUT, TUG. That means that the bridge system is designed to prevent system failures by ensuring technical operation and usability, and thus increasing safety, especially when navigating in confined waters. In addition, the simulator has functionality to be used as a tugboat with its special requirements. The installation also meets some of the requirements for dynamic positioning.
