Researchers at forest products and Chemical engineering are especially focused on leefy trees.

The division Forest Products and Chemical Engineering comprises three research groups which to a large extent work closely with each other: Forest Products Chemical Engineering, Sustainable Chemical Engineering and Chemical Environmental Science.

The forest industry today is one of Sweden's most important export industries. In the future it will acquire even greater importance as the raw material, wood, is renewable (assuming forestry is practised sensibly). An important prerequisite for the industry is that the processes which are used to produce the pulp and paper are sustainable financially and environmentally and that the products that are produced are competitive on the international market.

Two other important areas are district heating and waste management, which are also important areas for environmental adaptation.
