What should the campus look like in 30 years – or 100?

Ida Gäskeby and Stefan Forsaeus Nilsson are leading the work to develop the campus vision.

Chalmers is now starting the work of developing a vision for campus Johanneberg. As a student or alumnus, you have the chance to influence how the campus area will be designed in the future.

The current campus plan, established in 2019, has a time horizon extending to 2050. It is now time for an update that looks further into the future – the campus vision will focus on the years beyond 2055. The aim is also to broaden the perspectives, considering more factors and inviting more stakeholders to contribute.

What environments, facilities and meeting places are needed to support and inspire Chalmers in achieving its goals? What should a campus for a world-leading technical university look like? These are some of the questions the project seeks to answer.

Make your voice heard

“Do you, as a present or former Chalmers student, have any favourite spots on campus? If so, we would like to hear about them and what makes those places appealing. And which areas do you think need improvement? We are grateful for your feedback,” says Ida Gäskeby at Chalmersfastigheter, the project leader for the campus vision initiative.

A campus for the future

“Over the years, the campus has grown organically, according to needs and conditions of the time. As a result, the area is not particularly uniform today,” says Chalmers’ campus strategist, Stefan Forsaeus Nilsson. “Now that we are shaping a vision for the future, the aim is to identify guiding principles that are sustainable, functional and inspire pride in the campus itself. The campus vision should also capture what is long-term relevant and significant for a university.”

The project group includes Chalmers’ student union, among others. The goal is to complete the work by the end of the year. In the next phase, the new campus vision will serve as a foundation for detailed plans to further develop different parts of the campus.

Do you have thoughts and ideas about how Chalmers' Johanneberg campus should be designed in the future?  Welcome to register for an open workshop on the campus vision on 21 May. The workshop is held in Swedish.
