This week, the EDU-WACQT teachers network held its first in-person meeting. The network is for university teachers involved in quantum technology education across Sweden. The aim is to foster collaboration among educators to improve the quality and reach of quantum technology education.
The first network activity was a lunch-to-lunch workshop at Chalmers. The workshop offered discussions on challenges and future plans for the network, as well as knowledge sharing, collaboration, and professional development regarding university courses on quantum technology.
Peter Samuelsson, responsible for the workshop, emphasizes the importance of such initiatives:
“By encouraging cooperation and the sharing of expertise among educators, we can ensure that Sweden remains at the cutting edge of quantum technology education and research.”
“The network is open to participants from Swedish universities who are engaged in or interested in undergraduate teaching in quantum technology“
Program Highlights:
- Overview of Quantum Technology Education in Sweden - Representatives from eight Swedish universities
- The Quantum Testbed as a Resource for Quantum Technology Education - Miroslav Dobsicek, Head of Department, Chalmers Next Labs
- Quantum Technology Education in Finland - Kimmo Tuominen, Professor, Department of Physics, University of Helsinki
- Lab Tours:
- 3-day Lab in Experimental Quantum Physics for Bachelor Students - Lova Wilske, PhD Student, Department of Physics, Chalmers
- Lab in Open Quantum Systems for Master Students - Liangyu Chen, PhD Student, Quantum Technology Lab, Chalmers
- Lab in Quantum Optics (Wigner Tomography) for Master Students - Kunal Helambe, PhD Student, Chalmers
- Analogue Bell Experiment for Bachelor Students - Tom Blackburn, Associate Senior Lecturer, Department of Physics, University of Gothenburg - Challenges and Possibilities in Course Administration - Lotta Rydberg, Head of Admissions and Degrees, Chalmers
The EDU-WACQT programme is organizing activities to support undergraduate education in Quantum technology in Sweden:
- Support for developing and sharing quantum technology courses
- Summer jobs for undergraduates
- Scholarships for non-EU/EEA master students
EDU-WACQT will shortly announce calls for development of courses.
The primary financier of EDU-WACQT is the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation.
