Recruitment of the new President/CEO to begin

Stefan Bengtsson will not continue as President/CEO for Chalmers after the end of his tenure on 31st of July 2024. He will, however, still contribute to the development of Chalmers in accordance with the 20-year strategy after this time. To ensure the best possible implementation of the new strategy, recruitment of his successor is to begin now.

It is not possible to predict how long the recruitment will take, but a successor could take office as early as summer or autumn 2023. In that case Stefan Bengtsson will leave his post as President. The Board of the Chalmers Foundation decided 2022-10-03 that Stefan then instead will be Chair of the Board for Chalmers Tekniska Högskola AB, succeeding current Chair Torbjörn Holmström, who has previously announced his retirement.

“The implementation of the long-term strategy is superior to everything else in all of this,” says Stefan Bengtsson. “Since I decided, this summer, that I will not take on the assignment as President for another three years beyond July 2024, my view is that recruitment of a successor should start as soon as possible.”

Intentions are that Stefan Bengtsson will continue contributing to the implementation of the strategy once a successor is in place. Not only as Chair of the Board, but also in an operative manner in the areas of fundraising and external relations.

“This will be done in close collaboration with the Chalmers Foundation and the new President, who will set the agenda for this work. It is a very important area of development to implement the strategy, and I have the ability to contribute. Being President, the operational matters make it hard to focus enough on that today.”

Responsible for the recruitment will be Chair of the Board, Torbjörn Holmström, and the decision to start the process was taken by the Board 2022-10-05.
