Groundworks are ongoing. Working hours are mainly weekdays from 07:00 to 19:00, with occasional work on Saturdays from 09:00 to 16:00.
Blasting work is expected to continue until the end of June. Scheduled blasting times are 09:30 and 14:15, with reserve times at 14:45 and 18:30. Before each blast, the risk area will be cordoned off for approximately 10 minutes.
Please respect all safety barriers and follow instructions from staff on site. The contractor aims to minimise disruption, but noise from construction activities is to be expected. Thank you for your understanding during the building period.
Groundworks and blasting operations are already well underway on the rocky site. Soon, three new residential buildings will begin to rise, ranging from 12 to 17 storeys in height. A lower building will also be constructed, with space for a café, restaurant and offices, tying the quarter together.
Gothenburg has long faced a shortage of student housing. The 386 student and researcher apartments now being developed by the Chalmers Student Housing Foundation near campus Johanneberg will therefore provide an important addition. The housing will accommodate close to 500 students. Move-in is planned from 2028 onwards and will take place in stages.
The residential buildings will feature facades of yellow brick with elements of natural stone and will primarily consist of studio apartments, complemented by two-room apartments and duplex apartments in the tallest building.
This project is one of the first in Sweden to make use of new building regulations for student housing, allowing for smaller, more space-efficient and therefore more affordable apartments.
New Holtermanska is the largest new-build project undertaken by Chalmers Student Housing in over 60 years.
The adjacent Holtermanska buildings, which currently contain offices and a student hostel, will be preserved.
