Rikard Landberg, Professor of Food and Nutrition Science at Chalmers University of Technology, has been elected as a new member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences (KVA) in the class for engineering sciences.
Rikard Landberg’s research focuses on studying the health effects of foods, for example, the role of different diets in cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. The overall goal of his research is to develop new analytical methods that can ultimately be used for precision nutrition, to tailor personalised dietary advice.
“It is a great honour to have been elected member of this academy. It is recognition that our research is important and has contributed to the development of society,” says Rikard Landberg.
He emphasises that the appointment provides even better opportunities – together with other leading researchers – to reach out to and influence academia and society at large.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences is divided into ten scientific disciplines. Members of all disciplines are engaged in committees and working groups that, among other things, initiate investigations, provide responses to consultation, and organise conferences and seminars. They also take part in the work connected to the Academy’s prizes.
“The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences is a fantastic platform for scientific discussion and for making an impact in society. I look forward to contributing to this context. I will be able to share knowledge on an important societal issue: food and its significance for human and planetary health,” he says.
