This winter it is imperative to save energy, also at work. Here's how you can help.
On 9 December the Swedish government urged the citizens to save electricity. In combination with the work on energy efficiency carried out by Chalmers, Chalmersfastigheter and Akademiska hus, it is especially important to review what you can do to reduce energy use in your workplace. If everyone helps each other, it can have a big impact on Chalmers' overall consumption.
Just like at home, there are several simple things to do:
- Make sure to turn off the lights when no one is in the room.
- Sit together so you don't have to use lights everywhere.
- Turn off computers, monitors, copiers and printers after working hours. All equipment that draws power when not in use should be switched off if possible.
- Unplug chargers when not in use
- Make sure to use equipment with the highest energy class.
"It is critical that we all help to reduce energy consumption for many reasons. In the situation we are in now, it is of course necessary to continue to reduce our climate impact, but also to lower both costs and total power output properly, both for Chalmers and for society at large", says Fredrik Nilsson, Vice President for Campus and Sustainable development.
In addition to the fact that reduced energy consumption saves both money and the environment, it also reduces the small, but possible, risk of disconnection from the electricity grid. This would mean that Chalmers is left without electricity.
Thank you for your help and understanding!
