“It has been both fun and difficult to select the finalists,” says Mats Hulander, researcher at Chalmers and coordinator of the competition. This year’s Materials Science Photo Competition has attracted great interest from PhD students and postdocs at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg. Five finalists have now been selected, and their photos will be exhibited during the Materials for Tomorrow conference, where participants will also have the opportunity to vote for the winner.
“It’s inspiring to see the engagement and creativity of the researchers. Each photo tells something unique about the world of materials – from the atomic level to solutions that impact our everyday lives,” says Mats Hulander.
The photo competition, organized by Chalmers’ Area of Advance Materials Science, has since 2015 highlighted the visual side of research and how materials play a central role in fields such as energy, health, and sustainable technology.
The image carousel presents the five finalists. During the conference, the photos become a natural meeting point where researchers, students, and visitors can pause, talk – and vote for this year’s winner.
“No matter who wins, the competition shows the breadth and creativity of materials research,” says Mats Hulander.
👉 Please note that the images in the carousel here are slightly cropped. They are shown in full in the Volvo Foyer of Chalmers Student Union Building, where the voting also takes place.
Exhibition and voting
The five finalist photos will be displayed in the Volvo Foyer of the Chalmers Student Union Building on November 13–14 during the Materials for Tomorrow conference.
👉 Voting is open only on November 13.
