Julia Wiktor, Associate Professor at the Department of Physics, has been awarded the 2025 Magdalena Sjöstrand Science Prize by the Royal Society of Arts and Sciences in Gothenburg (KVVS).

Julia Wiktor is the second person to receive the prize, which was established in 2024. The citation reads:

"Julia Wiktor leads a successful research group in theoretical materials physics, focusing among other things on charge localisation and electronic defects in a family of minerals known as perovskites, materials that are important for next-generation optoelectronics, not least for the development of solar cells. Julia Wiktor has made major advances in modelling the interaction between light and matter by combining electronic structure theory with molecular dynamics. She contributes both breadth and depth to method development and is distinguished by clear leadership in interdisciplinary research collaborations. She has received an ERC Starting Grant and was appointed a Wallenberg Academy Fellow in 2023."

"I’m deeply grateful for this prize, says Julia Wiktor. In the day-to-day work of research, it’s easy to focus on what still needs to be done rather than what has already been achieved, so receiving this kind of external recognition feels both very nice and reassuring. I am very thankful to the people in my group, whose determination and creativity drive our work forward and who make carrying out this work especially fun and exciting. And of course thank you to those who nominated and selected me!"

The award will be presented at the KVVS annual celebration on January 24.
