Recently, the Department of Electrical Engineering welcomed participants to the autumn meeting of the IEEE EMC Society Sweden Chapter. The participants took part in seminars on the theme of computational electromagnetic (CEM) for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and also got a tour of several different labs.
Professor Thomas Rylander hosted the event and was very pleased with the day:
“We gathered close to 50 participants from industry, institutes and universities, which is a fantastic attendance. The participants were very pleased with the day, which has offered interesting lectures, a tour of the department and the opportunity to network. It was very a pleasure to welcome Marco Klingler to Chalmers – he is internationally prominent in the EMC field and an active participant at international EMC conferences.”
Marco Klingler gave his lecture titled "Implementation of numerical simulation activities in the automotive industry's development processes". Marco shared his experiences in the field and how the perspective can be implemented in different phases of industrial EMC projects.
Given the theme of the day, Thomas Rylander talked about the education in CEM and EMC at Chalmers. After a review of the courses offered at Chalmers, the participants were given information on how to register for these courses.
The participants came mostly from different companies and work in their respective roles with EMC in a number of different ways. After the lectures, the participants had the opportunity to visit several different labs at the Department of Electrical Engineering: the High Voltage Lab, the Battery Lab, the Electric Machine Lab and the Antenna Lab. Employees at the department guided the group around the labs and presented the research conducted there. The lab visits were appreciated and gave rise to many interesting questions and discussions.
Lennart Hasselgren, Chairman of IEEE EMC Society Sweden Chapter, sums up the day as follows:
“The meeting has been much appreciated by the participants. In particular, the presentation of the renowned international lecturer Marco Klingler was very popular. We had many participants with a good mix of industry and academia. The meeting was very well organized with a good venue and good opportunities for lunch and coffee.”
The event fits well into Electrical Engineering's initiative "Electromagnetic Compatibility Collaboration at Chalmers" (EMC3). An environment and platform for research, education and collaboration in the field of electromagnetic compatibility.
