Over the past year, work has begun on developing Chalmers’ course evaluation process. As part of this, a new version of Chalmers’ course survey tool is being introduced in stages during the academic year.
Going forward, students will access the course survey directly in Canvas, which will reach more students than only through email distribution. The survey has also been updated to make it quicker to complete.
During the autumn semester, the Student and Education Division will continue working on questions such as how Chalmers can increase student engagement in course development and how feedback can be improved to those who responded to a course survey on what their answers led to. If you would like to contribute your thoughts to this work, please contact kursvardering@chalmers.se.
Chalmers has also decided to no longer hand out gift cards to students who take part in course committee meetings. The reason is that, under tax legislation, this could be regarded as taxable income.
'We see the gift cards as a sign of appreciation for the students’ engagement and not as compensation, but it is not certain that the Swedish Tax Agency interprets it the same way. It is unfortunate not to be able to show our appreciation in this way, but we cannot risk our students becoming liable for tax on the gift cards and therefore have to stop handing them out,' says Jörgen Blennow, Vice President for Education.
